What is KROC?
KROC (Katahdin Region Outdoor Collective) is a dynamic group organizations with a shared belief in the profound impact of outdoor experiences on youth wellbeing and the future vitality of the Katahdin region. Our collaborative efforts result in year-round opportunities for young individuals to foster a deep connection to nature, cultivate leadership skills, and become future land stewards.
These youth programs are a collaboration of the Outdoor Sport Institute, Friends of Katahdin Woods and Waters, with support from the Katahdin Collaborative and numerous other regional organizations and individuals who have donated their time and resources. Thank you to all who make these programs possible.

Fall 2025 Trips
Stars Over Katahdin Overnight, September 27th & 28th
Celebrate the darkest skies east of the Mississippi with our special Youth Camping Trip during Stars Over Katahdin. While the public gathers for our annual stargazing festival, youth in grades 6–12 will step behind the scenes for private lessons and activities led by professional astronomers. With access to real telescopes, students will explore planets, constellations, and the Milky Way in one of the few places in the eastern United States where the night sky still shines in such stunning clarity. This trip is a chance to learn from experts, bond with peers, and experience the wonder of an International Dark Sky Sanctuary in a way few ever will. Learn about Stars Over Katahdin here.
After the event, we’ll settle into a private campground nearby to enjoy s’mores and a campfire. Dinner, breakfast and camping gear are all included at no cost. Pick up and drop off is at Taylor’s Katahdin View Campground in Stacyville. Registration is required.
