Community Paddlesports Leader Training

Learn how to make paddling more accessible in your community. 

Help others discover the fun of paddling on flat water and moving water.

Learn skills and progressions you can share with others to get them started on the water.

Practice safety and rescue skills to build your confidence as an instructor and leader on the water.

This special training is being offered thanks to Skowhegan Outdoors and the Run of River project.

The focus will be on the following -

  • Developing & improving individuals’ comfort on flat water and moving water in a variety of watercraft (kayak, SUP, canoe)

  • Developing & improving individuals’ comfort on flat water through class 2/3 whitewater in kayaks

  • Equipping current and aspiring program leaders to teach & lead beginner paddling experiences on flat water, moving water, and class 1 & 2 whitewater

  • Managing risk and successfully dealing with water-based incidents, emergencies, and rescues

Our mission is to help people make human-powered outdoor sports an integral part of their lives and communities. We are a 501c3 non-profit organization.

The OSI Community is a peer-driven network for individuals whose interest in outdoor sport fits into one or more of the following areas – 

  • Pursuing outdoor sport personally

  • Teaching and mentoring others

  • Building capacity for outdoor sports in their community

Through the OSI Community members can access online and in-person instruction, a growing online resource library, and a network of peers to connect with and share ideas.
